| Given that there is no source listed here, it isn't clear whether these figures are aggregate, annual or what. In some cases, it seems likely that what is taking place is repatriation, i.e. Mexican emigrants to the U.S. who leter emigrate back to their country of origin or their family's country of origin, whereas in others it is original emigration. In other cases, it may be cultural 'sorting', by which I mean people of a particular cultural background like Bosnian voluntarily moving to the country which is the center of their culture. The Balkan region has traditionally been very mixed with one village being Croat and the next being Bosnian and the next being Serb. Now that each of these groups are represented by their own nation-state, there is a natural tendency to move to the nation-state to which they culturally identify. that said, there can also be pressure from the nation-state where they reside to encourage this as well. |
