People in Scotland mostly speak English, but Scots or Scottish or Gaelic refers to pre-anglo language which still exists but is spoken by few, like in Wales and Cornwall, where they are official and important, yet are still minority languages in their own countries/regions. Portuguese and Spanish are related and have many similarities but not mutually intelligible. Swedish and Danish are more similar. Where's the line? Don't know.
