Great game, very difficult, nominated.

Good stuff. I appreciate the numerous bonuses; I don't know where one should draw the line regarding how many to include, but there seems like some more that could be on there (Montreal and Copenhagen most conspicuously) to prevent suckers like me from going to look them up.

I've added a few more bonus answers - now I have roughly every metro that didn't make it because it was between 1.5 and 2 million and those between 30 and 35 miles. Now I should really stop, or I'll end up with more bonus answers than real answers.

Great quiz. Only criticism (for your bonus on Tel Aviv) is that the West Bank is not a country.

Booger, if you look at the statistics, that's the only reason why it was a bonus and not an actual answer. It's big enough and close enough to have made it otherwise.

There isn't a 2 million metro area near Monaco (or Luxembourg or San Marino).

@johnlk: Copenhagen is definitely close enough to Sweden (about 39km) but is only 1.4 million.

@caramba: When you look at Russia as a country, St. Petersburg is indeed relatively close to the border, but it's still about 84 miles.

yeah surprised el paso - Juarez, Laredo-Nuevo Laredo, or Brownsville-Matamoros wasn't on here even as a bonus.

Maybe Hong Kong / Shenzhen as bonuses? Not really separate countries, but you still have to go through customs to travel between them so it might as well be.

@marpocky if you include Shenzhen/Hong Kong as bonuses you'd have to include Nicosia as well, as you have to go through customs between Turkish and Greek Cyprus.

I'd change West Bank to Palestine since Sporcle standard is to refer to the state of Palestine as Palestine.

Can't believe that all three that I missed were cities I have been to (and that in two of those cases I had even used the border crossing specified!). Whereas of all the others that I did get I have only been to two. Piffle!

Thanks for all the bonuses. The one that I was most surprised not to see was Istanbul - I didn't realize how far west of it Turkey extends.

Also, I wonder how the source measures distances exactly? Because I'm not sure how the Vatican can be 1.3 miles from Rome... it's next door! So it sort of raises questions about the bonuses that are 30.1 miles away.

Distance is most certainly measured from the city center, that means Vatican border is 1.3 miles off-center.

@chriskotx: I found for Kolkata about 36 miles, for Dhaka about 47 miles. This is the tool I was using by the way: http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm
