Strategy for this one: Try remote island nations first. Can't believe I forgot Lima, though.

I like it to some extent, but it's all large countries and island nations. Still a great idea for a quiz

Actually pretty good quiz, really makes you think about your answers and it's really nice to not have a "think about the biggest countries" way of solving it.

What about the distance Windhoek-gaborone? According to google earth ca 930km compared to ankara-sofia 850km, or Mogadishu-Nairobi ca 1020km? Otherwise great quiz!

mlrs84: Because it's asking for the distance to any foreign territory rather than a foreign capital. Thought Astana might feature but nope, not even close.

i definitely would have done better if the quiz was titled 'countries whose capitals have the longest distance to another country's territory.' time to study up.

yeah, ok quiz, but I think the title is misleading (although the instructions are quite clear). In many of these cases, the capital (especially of an island nation) is very close to its country's' borders; the straight line distances employed may cross over 100s of miles of "borderless" international waters before approaching the next closest nation.

Never realized how far Australia (or at least its capital) was New Zealand. Good quiz.

I would like to see a version of this quiz that is "capitols farthest from an international land border" that excludes islands

I never realized the distance from Tokyo to South Korea was almost double the distance from Washington to Canada. For some reason I thought they were a lot closer.

Why does it say 'France (Mayotte)' but 'Christmas Islands', 'Greenland', 'Wallis and Futuna' and 'Norfolk Island'? Shouldn't it either just say 'Mayotte' or say 'Denmark (Greenland)' etc.?

Trying countries like brazil and russia for ages, then gave up, saw the countries there and then realised you had to say the capitals. D'oh!

14/20 are on the list purely due to their country's remoteness, rather than the capital's distance from the "border." Definitely a misleading title, although it is quite clear once you get into the quiz what it wants. I was more interested in the quiz implied by the title (and represented by the other 6 answers) than what it turned out to be, because I feel like "remote capitals/countries" has been done before.

Good, fun quiz. However, I agree with marpocky that the title is misleading. I did not think that island nations would count, and did not try such capitals until towards the very end of the quiz.

Great quiz. I cottoned on quickly that it would be pacific nations and knew lots but not their capitals. Lost out on 2 because of using alternative (older?) spellings.

This would be a fun concept to do with U.S. state capitals--the ones farthest away from another state.

The reason it says France is because Mayotte is an integral part of France, being one of the 5 overseas departments. It has equal status with any part of European France. Meanwhile, Greenland, for example, is a territory of Denmark.

As a South American, I should have got Lima. Also, I'd be better if I learnt capitals from Oceania nations apart from Australia, NZ and Tonga (I remembered "Palikir" but did not know which country... it was only a bonus answer anyway). Great quiz anyway!
