Can you name the largest world cities that start with the same letter as their country (max. 1 per country)?
created by
Onno
Enter a city in the box below
Correctly named cities will show up below
Answers do not have to be guessed in order
This quiz doesn't follow the strict definition of alliteration, just beginning with the same letter. The city with an * is sometimes spelled with a different letter.

This is about largest world cities, not about capitals. This is the quiz that you are looking for: http://www.sporcle.com/games/alliterativeworldcapitals.php

Great game, and some of us do understand what you're asking for! On the other hand... Brussels has 1.8 million inhabitants, so that one should qualify! Unless the definition of the city is much smaller than the actual urban area?

I'd never heard of Nampho, so i looked it up and it's got less than half a million people!

Some reactions I can work with :) Brussels' Metro is 1.8 according to Wikipedia, so the urban area should be over 1.0 I suppose, yet City Mayors doesn't list it. I hadn't heard of Nampho either, but I assumed they were right. Maybe it has a lot of suburbs. Or maybe I should just take another source next time...

Why limit to 1 per country? Brasilia, Belem, Chengdu, Monterrey - these are all large enough to make the cut, and well-known.

I thought it would be more interesting. Aside from Chengdu, Changchun and Changsha would also be top 20, and the source lists 'Baixada Santista' as a metro in Brazil (Actually known as Santos). If I'd leave that one out, Changde would be city #20 - still leaving out Maputo, Adelaide, Calgary, etc.

To clear up the Nampho confusion...the reason why so many people haven't heard of it is because it's usually included in the Pyongyang metropolitan area and is rarely considered as a separate urban entity. I guess depending on the source, some may define Nampho as being separate from Pyongyang...kind of like some consider Incheon as being separate from Seoul.
