I thought of Robin Hood and so I guessed Nottingham; I didn't think of Lady Godiva (yes, it was two centuries before, but anyway...) and so I missed Coventry.

When I first looked at the quiz listed in the User Created, I thought "are there 1200 cities in England"?

I'm prepared to be corrected, but I suspect that this is based on populations of dioceses as these are nearly all cathedral cities with bishoprics (hence why @Db99's surprise at no Cambridge). 'Bath and Wells' gives it away.

"Bath and Wells" is certainly odd, but on the other hand there *are* places here that were not cathedral cities in 1200 - Oxford, Bristol, Coventry, Nottingham, Ipswich, Newcastle - so I'm not sure how it would work. Also, Ely, which was a cathedral city, is not included.

Why are Leeds and Ripon grouped together is it because they are both in 30th place?
