Australia is usually considered a continent, not an island ...

What about New York? Or is it disqualified because The Bronx is on the mainland?

You should give populations, because I'm wondering about the omissions of Medan and Surabaya, Havana, and Santo Domingo. And also, more than 80% of NYC's population is on islands, so it should count.

also, is this metro areas or cities. I am assuming metro areas since Manila proper only has a population of 1.6 million while it is the metro area that has a population of 16 million. That said, Yokohama would be considered part of Tokyo's metro area. Also, New York and Mumbai are clear omissions.

Large part of Hong Kong population lives in New Territories and Kowloon, which are on the mainland, not HK Island. So if it counts so should New York and Mumbai

Australia can be considered an island, but only when using the term liberally - meaning that every landmass is an island. Unfortunately, for that reason, Australia cannot be included - otherwise you'd have to include the other continental landmasses, and this quiz would just be another name the most populated cities in the world.

Mumbai and new York, both of which have millions of people living on islands, as well as the central business district being located on islands, should be included here.
