My primary source was Catholic.org's Saint Index. St. Stephen is generally spelled with a "ph." After doing some extra research, I must concede that Ruth and Virginia are indeed a saints. The quiz will be changed accordingly. As for the Jessica/Joanna question, I tried to cover that with the nicknames section of my note. I am not, I must confess, exceedingly familiar with saintly naming conventions, and if someone can explain to me why the derivative Joanna should not be considered a nickname, I'd love to hear.
Addressing the matter of Jonathan, even in my additional research I have not been able to find a verifiable categorization of the Jonathan from 1 Samuel (the only Jonathan I can imagine you're talking about) as a saint. I found a few links showing he's venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church, but none listing him as a saint. Once again, if there's something I'm missing, waterjoe, please tell me. Likewise, I can't find anything about a Saint Diane.
Finally, the only reference I can find to Saint Karen is the use of that as a nickname for saint Katherine. Is there another one? Thank you for your comment, waterjoe. I apologize for the two mistakes, and if you can show me that these other three are too, I will of course correct and apologize for them as well. Thank you! |
