Interesting idea, but a couple of the titles are so generic they apply to multiple acts. (16 greatest hits, and Gold) How about replacing with "Immaculate Collection" - Madonna and "Design Of A Decade" - Janet Jackson?

Also, can you substitute the more unique title "The Best That I Could Do 1978–1988" for the Mellencamp collection?

Ok, I replaced ABBA with Immaculate Collection and just changed 16 Greatest Hits to a different Steppenwolf greatest hits album.

The most surprising thing on this quiz has to be that the Barenaked Ladies have a greatest hits album.

You could add "The Worst of Jefferson Airplane"

The Barenaked Ladies are fantastic. Their recent stuff is pretty crummy but Gordon, Maybe You Should Drive, Born On A Pirate Ship, and, especially, Stunt, are great (and Maroon had its moments). Ok, ok, maybe 4 good albums over something like a 10 year period don't quite earn you the right to make a Greatest Hits album... but at least we've all heard of the Barenaked Ladies. Who the hell is/are Ratt?

Sequel!! People seemed to enjoy it, so I made the sequel. I used mdkid's and danner's suggestions in it so thanks to both of you. http://www.sporcle.com/games/octoman/greatesthits2

How about NOFX's "The Greatest Songs Ever Written (By Us)," the Suicide Machines' "The Least Worst of the Suicide Machines," or Godsmack's "Good Times, Bad Times - Twenty Years of Godsmack."

It should be "Buffett" with two Ts, not one.

The Rush album is also mis-titled. Apparently Sporcle can't afford editors anymore.

Kinda fun, I liked how I could guess on some of them from the names without being familiar with the CD's. made it interesting.

the concept of a greatest hits album has been ruined for me since i saw "the best of vanilla ice" in a store when i was 14.

@dan_f11: Well, it's actually a good thing it wasn't on here. You wouldn't have been right. (It's Cypress Hill--like the tree, not the Mediterranean Island nation.)

Perhaps this quiz should accept "3 Dog Night" as an answer. That may not be how the band themselves spell their name, but it is probably what most people will type. I know I did.

Buffett had an earlier greatest hits album, the title of which is "Songs You Know by Heart." That would likely have been a more difficult one to get.

John Lennon also had a Greatest Hits album called Legend: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lennon-Legend-Very-Best-John/dp/B00000634J

Huh? 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong has turned into an Elvis album??? Don't worry I'm only joking. Kinda. The Fall's compilation has stolen the name from the Elvis one, and Elvis and his compilation are infinitely more well known. But that didn't stop me hopefully typing in 'The Fall'.

I also tried Lennon for "Legend", but then remembered that Bob Marley had also done one by that name. I typed in Marley, and it didn't come up, so figured there must have been yet another band that used that title. I was mildly disgruntled to see if I'd added a "Bob" to my answer it would have been correct - since others were accepted by surname only I'd assumed it ought to work for all of them...

Sorry... but Faith No More has a greatest hits album? Shouldn't it be a "Greatest Hit" album titled "Epic"? Great quiz!

When I saw Mothership I automatically thought of Jefferson Starship based on the name, and Boston based on their album covers.

For Mothership, I tried every combination of Parliament imaginable (Parliament, Funkadelic, P-Funk, George Clinton, P-Funk All-Stars, etc.).

I thought that most of these were pretty easy, with big hints right in the clues... of course, since I am over 50, most of these "albums" were right in my wheelhouse

MrChewypoo - Faith No More actually had pretty good success with a number of songs. We Care A Lot, Midlife Crisis, Falling to Pieces, Easy, Epic, etc. Do yourself a favor and listen to the rest of their catalog. Amazing band.

I don't hate the f*****g Eagles, but that title doesn't give much to go on if you don't know the album specifically. All the other titles on here have something distinctive.
