| I was surprised to learn that Rivera finished so high in the Cy Young voting in 1996, because he wasn't even the Yankees closer yet, just the setup man for John Wetteland. I can't think of any other setup man that would have ever gotten any Cy Young award votes. I also never realized that Doyle finished so high in the 1987 voting, since he only had 11 starts in the AL. I guess 9-0 with a 1.53 ERA looked pretty good to the voters. I wonder if anyone has ever gotten votes in both leagues for any award, after being traded midseason. |
