	I always find it difficult to accept that island countries that share borders only with other island countries (i.e. Indonesia, Timor Leste, UK, Haiti etc.) are not included in quizzes abouth island countries.

	The island of Cyprus is normally considered a shared island, but not by Turkey and Cyprus. The UK has territorial claims on the island of Cyprus; Turkish "claims" in Cyprus (Turkey doesn't claim any part of Cyprus but rather recognizes the Northern half as independent) are only recognized by Turkey and the de facto government in control of Northern Cyprus.

	I don't really think if a country shares an island with another country that they stop being an island country. If the entire country exists on an island it is an island country.

	I would definitely agree that countries like UK and Haiti should be considered island countries. I've always considered an island nation to be one without any land on the main continental landmasses. Though not a definitive source, Wikipedia agrees with this definition.

	As everyone has said, I think that an island country is what it is if it's located on islands. To say that Indonesia is not an island country because it shares a couple islands with some other countries is ridiculous. What else would you call Indonesia, other than an island country?

	I understand that Australia is considered a large land mass, but Australia is a country, whether it is a 'continent' or not, & it has no land borders. I don't think it's fair to end the quiz, because Australia IS a borderless country. Oceania is the continent it's in, so why is it not counted?

	By not accepting Australia this quiz doesn't really have any cred. Australia is a continent, yes, but it is also an island nation without any land borders, it doesn't get counted in official 'island size' stats. You are much better off to just make the quiz about 'countries with no land borders'. The way it currently is comes across as cute and clever (and probably to some, smartass) and it detracts from the quiz significantly. On the other hand, I don't agree with people saying things like indonesia and uk should be accepted, the point is that the country has no land borders.

	Australia is a bit confusing since it means two things, one is a continental landmass and the other is a country. Mainland Australia is the continental landmass and, therefore, since the country of Australia has land on a continental landmass, it cannot be classified as an island nation.

	I think if you are not going to allow Australia to count, then you should mention that in the rules, since as people have pointed out you seem to be using oceania as a continent, which would then allow australia to count as a country within that continent.

	the time is fine if this were not a mine quiz, Mines should offer a lot more time than required, regular quizes are about making quick guesses, one wrong answer kills the game so time is a non-issue in a mine quiz and as such you really need to give a LOT more time for players to actually contemplate their answers not rush through them.

	and i am absolutely shocked at the number of responses that suggest Australia is an island country, the quiz maker did mention it can't be an island country since it's a continent. Ummm what is the biggest island in the world (hint, it isn't Australia because it isn't an island) as such the quiz maker is 100&% correct here yet he was given thumbs down for that. Either we have some who wish to stir the pot or we have some ignorant people who don't know an island from a continent.

	Cyprus does not have a disputed border with Turkey. The dispute is with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, an independent country recognized only by Turkey. According to Sporcle and every country in the world except Turkey, it has sovereignty over the entire island minus Akrotiri and Dhekelia (I can understand why you wouldn't include it b/c of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, though). Though I agree with the previous commenters that this is a bizarre definition of "island country".

	@masaeaida: I was just about to type the same answer as you did, when I read your answer. However, while I agree that this definition of island country is bizarre, it is one I have seen repeated on Sporcle quite a few times, so it isn't exactly made up whole cloth by the creator.

	While you're at it could you fix the error about Cyprus in the title? As I said (and you ignored), Cyprus doesn't share the island with Turkey. It shares the island with the UK. And even if you choose to arbitrarily recognize the Republic of Northern Cyprus, Turkey still claims no part of the island.

	Great quiz. Just put a note about Australia in the instructions. I think you added too much time. I agree with you about island nations sharing land borders. And you're following sporcle conventions about Australia as a continental landmass.

	No such thing as "too much time" in a mine quiz. The idea is not to rush but to take your time so you don't blow up! Yeah, if we had a full 20 minutes, that would be be over the top but you must realize the idea behind the type of quiz and not confuse them. the extra 5 mins is perfect

	and Cuba, the US has a military base their, it is not a territory of the US as is Puerto Rico, Guam, etc. No territory = no border.

	I agree with several others in that Cyprus should not be excluded because of the non-existent border with Turkey or the disputed border with the de facto independent part recognized only by Turkey, but because of the border with the UK. Nevertheless, if Haiti, Papua New Guinea etc. are excluded, Cyprus should be excluded as well.

	What´s up with all the people complaining about Australia (and getting voted up for it)? It has never been accepted on sporcle when it comes to island nations. Go check the island nations quiz that was published years ago.

	ok this is really simple. It doesn't matter if Australia is an isalnd or not, noone wants to play a minefield with trick answers. Either make it clear up front in the instructions, or change the way the quiz is framed to be 'countries with no land borders'. I don't think anyone is arguing that 'Australia is an island' - all they are saying is that the quiz isn't fun the way it is and that a fix is needed. Exactly what that fix is could be up to the author, but they don't want to change it, so shrugthe quiz continues to be rated under 2. To make good quizzes, you have to listen.

	Ludicrous that Australia is considered incorrect. Erm - the quiz itself categorises other islands in the relevant continent as being in "Oceania" - do you believe there to be a separate continent made up of Kiribati, Samoa et al? Sort it out.

	Why are loads of people saying that any country which has some island(s) is an island country, and getting voted up for it? Is Denmark and island country, because some of its land is on islands? Is Panama an island country, because its two portions are separated by a canal?

	And another thing. Why do we have to type out the word "and" in answers like Trinidad and Tobago for the answer to be accepted? Normally "and" is not required on sporcle.
