Well you've gotta be good at something. Seems pretty convenient really, Malawi corner the southern African potato market, Egypt the north Africa...

@BoomRShine- Since it would seem 'USA' is not an adequate abbreviation, 'United States now accepted as requested..

Even though China and India have the wrong climate for potatoes and mainly rice is eaten there, you can always count on them to be high on these lists. Should have guessed Peru: the potato originates from there.

It makes sense that Ireland isn't an answer. After all, the Irish left because there wasn't enough.

The truth's out, The Netherlands has fields of potatoes not tulips. Their office of tourism does such a good job of convincing us otherwise!

The UK now grows more potatoes than Ireland does? That's highly unexpected. On the more amusing side, I find it funny that Turkey grows its own potatoes. Makes things easier for Thanksgiving.

Surprised that about 40% got Malawi. I guessed most countries around it with no luck assuming, stupidly, that it couldn't be one of them.

@Sjoerd: Neither China nor India have the "wrong climate" for potatoes. They're both big countries that have pretty much every type of climate zone you can think of.

@ClintT13: plus, to add to what you're saying...a lot of people think that China is hot/tropical. Which is true for the southernmost part of the country, but most of China is temperate. China is quite similar to the US...we can think of Beijing as climatically similar to New York and Chicago; Shanghai somewhere between Washington DC and Atlanta; and Hong Kong and Guangzhou similar to Miami.
