Washington never was an official member of either political party, though he leaned Federalist. I wouldn't list him for either party, or at least I wouldn't list him under Democratic-Republican.

In 1792, Democratic-Republican electors largely voted for George Washington and George Clinton (in contrast to Federalists, who voted for Washington and Adams). For that reason, it seems fair to put him as a Democratic-Republican nominee.

Needs to be in three or four columns. It's annoying having to scroll up and down when the quiz takes up too much vertical space.

Washington detested political parties even warning us to stayaway from them in his farewell speech. To put Washington in a party is an insult to him.

Why not give all three Whig candidates in 1836 - Harrison, Hugh L. White, and Daniel Webster?

@NaveedIC But Washington wasn't a D-R. In 1792, the two parties weren't in a battle for President, the battle was for VP (Federalists for Adams, most D-R's for Clinton). By your logic, James Monroe was a Federalist nominee too because the electors who voted for Federalist VP's voted for Monroe.

Lincoln was indeed the Union Party in 1864

I agree with Washington- he wasn't the nominee or candidate of any political party. As to Lincoln in 1864...it is more appropriate to show him as the nominee of the National Union Party...because the Republican Party officially didn't nominate him for President that year (it didn't nominate anyone at all, in fact).

No Bull Moose Party for Roosevelt or No Nothing Party for Van Buren? I guess the term Major party does preclude those, but it would've been fun!
