| New York is in fact the proper name of the city, not New York City. If you look at how the Census Bureau classifies city names, they list cities like this: Los Angeles city; Houston city; etc. and they list places like Kansas City and Salt Lake City like this: Kansas City city; Salt Lake City city. Notice the double use of the word, one proper (capitalized), one common (lower case)? However, New York is listed as New York city, NOT New York City city. See the difference? The author is correct in listing North Las Vegas as the largest 3-word city and Albuquerque as the largest 11-letter city. |
