| @mtretter Do you really think Sporcle lies? or do you just think it's necessary to cheat to get every word? Neither is true, as far as I can tell.
Here's a tip: start with the helping verbs (am/is/are/was/were, etc.) and the 5 W's (who/what/when/where/why/how); don't forget that using "the" gives you "a" as well, and vice versa. Then move to prepositions (up/down; under/over; to/from; now/then; with/without; before/after, etc.), pronouns (I/me/my; you/your/yours; he/his/him, etc.), and conjunctions (and, because). Toss in this/that, these/those, here/there, which/like, no/not/never, and add some Rowling-specific terms (Harry/Ron/Hermione, the Weasleys, the Dursleys). Remember, it's not a minefield: entering a word that isn't there doesn't terminate the quiz, so be adventurous!
Sit back and read what you have. You should almost be able to. If you have any familiarity with any of the books, you'll remember certain phrases (" 'Do I look stupid?' roared Uncle Vernon, a bit of fried egg dangling from his bushy moustache" is one of my personal favorites -- makes me laugh every time) and fill in certain words. You won't get 100 the first time, and probably not the 2nd, or the 3rd, unless you're far better at it than I am. It will take practice and memory sharpening, but you can do it *without* memorizing chapters.
There, now. You can do better. Good luck! |
