Shakespeare or Captain Picard?

Really interesting and original quiz. I think number 5 could be any tiger really; I kept thinking of Tigger (I was probably on that track because of Piglet). Maybe you could accept alternates, or perhaps adding a strip of red for the bandana would make it more clear that it's supposed to be Tony.
Aug 9th, 2010 at 20:08 GMT
Thanks! There is a strip of red there for Tony... that's what I was going for (and he seems to have a blue nose and yellow eyes more often than not). This was more of a challenge putting together than I had originally thought. I wasn't happy with my R2 and Elmo, and that seems to be highlighted in the results! I'm already thinking how to improve for a sequel.
Aug 9th, 2010 at 20:47 GMT
The bottom half of Wonder Woman looks like Cartman lol.
Aug 9th, 2010 at 21:29 GMT
Ah I see the red now, sorry. It looked orange to me at first, but I've always had trouble distinguishing the two.
Aug 9th, 2010 at 21:58 GMT
I looked at this and thought, "This is stupid and impossible." Then I took it and thought, "This is possible and clever." Nicely done! I don't think it would hurt to add a little more time--certainly this isn't one of those "well you could just type in every possibility" quizzes.

I really thought 9 was Pitfall Harry, from the old Atari 2600 game, but apparently he had green pants and a more pink face. Nicely quiz!

Cool idea. But I have to say 2 looks nothing like R2-D2 at all.
Aug 10th, 2010 at 03:06 GMT
@mehmeh53... yeah, I know. My bad. 25% thought otherwise though. I toyed with Darth Vader instead but it was just a black blob.
@casusity: You are very correct... Pitfall rocked! Good call.
Aug 10th, 2010 at 04:51 GMT
Maybe add a black border around #2 so you can use true white instead of light gray. That completely threw me off. Great quiz regardless, though.
Aug 10th, 2010 at 07:08 GMT
I thought #9 looked like Mr. Garrison and #6 was Gumby. I don't know why I thought Gumby wore purple. Still, great quiz!
Aug 10th, 2010 at 14:28 GMT
Very interesting quiz! I was surprised at how well I did, too. Nice job!

Thanks all for the kind comments. I created a second one... I personally thought it was easier but give it a go and see for yourself:

Great quiz. Did anyone else type "Hobbes" for Tony the Tiger?
Aug 11th, 2010 at 19:34 GMT
Awesome quiz. I personally got R2, just had to think about it a bit. Only one I missed was Elmo, although I see him clearly now.
Aug 11th, 2010 at 21:58 GMT
I thought this was an odd quiz until I tried it, and it turned out to be a lot of fun! I thought for sure number 9 was Peter Griffin for the family guy though!
Aug 12th, 2010 at 05:24 GMT
I was really quite impressed by the ability of the human brain to actually be able to do this.
Aug 13th, 2010 at 00:45 GMT
Yeah, it's really kind of insightful regarding how our brains reference information.
Aug 13th, 2010 at 07:36 GMT
Yeah Kris. #9 is def Peter Griffin.
Aug 13th, 2010 at 12:48 GMT
Peter Griffin has green pants, a white shirt, a belt and reddish brown hair. Maybe I'll include him if I do another one. Thanks!
Aug 13th, 2010 at 22:00 GMT
I thought R2D2 was the Staypuft Marshmallow man...
Aug 19th, 2010 at 16:27 GMT
This is brilliant.

This is what I hate about Sporcle. The unpopular quizzes are never discovered. This is a brilliant and original quiz. Loved it so much I actually cared to nominated it. Kudos, Chewy.

Great quiz, I was able to get 9 of them.
Sep 3rd, 2010 at 21:20 GMT
I like how even the 5 o'clock shadow is included on Barney Rubble.
Sep 4th, 2010 at 13:37 GMT
Why don't you accept "Rubble" for "Barney Rubble"?
Sep 10th, 2010 at 20:09 GMT
I'm amazed that these are recognizable, but they are. Also, they give me the creeps.
Sep 26th, 2010 at 04:28 GMT
Wow. This is a great quiz. When I first saw it I thought it would be impossible, but it was actually suprisingly easy with some thought. You did a great job picking characters who can be recognized from just a few colors.
Sep 26th, 2010 at 20:24 GMT
Great Concept! There should be more quizzes that transform iconic characters into art forms.

I thought shaggy was mr garrison

I agree with kyusil, I tried about four different spellings of that and couldn't figure out why it was wrong.
Nov 1st, 2010 at 21:54 GMT
Great game. Pretty bummed out how for some reason it didnt accept R2D2 so I was on that one for a while. And Im also having a hard time seeing how thats Elmo. Anyway, I have no idea how I got most of these
Nov 1st, 2010 at 21:55 GMT
also I thought wonder woman was cartman at first
Nov 5th, 2010 at 03:17 GMT
Really, really, really nice quiz. Although only getting half of the answers correct, I did get Shaggy, which is making me giddy.
Nov 7th, 2010 at 01:01 GMT
I thought Elmo was one of the Incredibles (Jack-Jack or Dash due to height). BTW, nominated.
Nov 29th, 2010 at 00:36 GMT
No goatee for Shaggy?
Dec 2nd, 2010 at 14:45 GMT
very VERY cool. How did you decide how tall they are in comparison to each other?

Dec 18th, 2010 at 22:22 GMT
Wicked quiz, it's so cool, once you know who it is, it's almost like looking at a picture of them and you can't see them as anything else. The only thing is, I thought Shaggy was Jon Arbuckle, Garfield's owner, and once I'd seen him, I couldn't unsee him.
