| @chriskotx: well, at least according to the accepted answers here Brit does count as a slur too! …but seriously, I think the reason is that what makes a word racist isn't the word itself, but how it’s been used. “Jap” has been widely used to be racist and disparaging in the past, so it continues to get used in that way. “Brit” gets used much less often in racist ways, much more often in a friendly or neutral context. They’re formed the same way, but like with any words, their meaning is determined by their usage. |
