Great quiz, but could definitely use a few more "alive" characters to throw people off

It's very debatable if Travis Bickle lived or died at the end of taxi driver. I for one believe that he did indeed die.

Isn't he driving a taxi when the movie ends?

Yes, but a lot of people interpert the last scene as his dying thoughts.

Whoa whoa whoa Butch and Sundance totally made it out of there alive and lived out their days in Australia. I refuse to believe otherwise.

@Sammy - Oh interesting. That implication shot over my head when I saw the movie. Thanks for the info, I'll switch him out.

I'm with jmfield on this, albeit a bit less facetiously; the film ends before Butch and Sundance's final fate is shown. While it may look probable they would die from the events shown, said death does not actually occur in the film.

Maybe we should also pretend that Thelma and Louise made it out OK.

To put it more clearly: The film ends before their lives end. Their survival or death after the film is irrelevant; for every moment of the film, they are unquestionably alive, not dead. They aren't "dead film characters" any more than any other character who is going to die at some point after the film ends (which, really, would include any mortal character set far enough in the past.)

Yes, I know what you meant. Thelma and Louise are the same; the movie ends before you see them actually die. I guess I'd consider a "dead film character" one that you could not possibly make a sequel about because they are obviously dead (eg Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). It's actually quite different than alive film characters.

Confusing. Dead as in eventually dead? Dead as in we never saw them alive? Poorly thought out concept.

Costigan was DiCaprio's character and unless you are talking about Wahlberg's character you are right.

@Retracto, I can't really explain it any simpler. You click the dead people, whether they were dead the whole movie (which is only one case) or they die at the end. (and no, thelma's car doesn't have wings, and yes, those are gun shot noises at the end of butch cassidy..)

Nevertheless, I question the wisdom of putting Thelma and Butch Cassidy on here. If/when those characters died, it was after the movie ended, even if only a few moments afterwards. Presumably, every character will die some time after the end of their movie. Why give preference to these two?

I don´t know about Thelma and Louise but re Butch and Sundance I know for sure: they were dead before the credits were even halfway through and I was out of the cinema. And that makes it perfectly justified to have them here in this - great - quiz!

'Léon' was called 'The Professional' when it was released in the US and I believe it's now sold as 'Léon: The Professional', so it might be a good idea to list that one by its most inclusive title.

I think the confusing part is that Sporcle used the one exception (dead throughout) to promote the quiz. I started looking at the characters expecting to see all characters who were dead throughout as well. The description isn't descriptive enough to override Sporcle's distraction.

How can Leon be the least guessed answer? Apart from using grenades with a ridiculously long timer, that's one of the best movie ends and one of the best movies ever in my opinion. "this is for....mathilda"....BOOM. Good quiz

I sort of replied to this in the archived comments, but my argument against the "Any character will die eventually" comment is that the directors could have made sequels about ANY of those alive characters, but NOT a single one of the dead characters...definitely not thelma, and definitely not butch cassidy. It's not like they die years later, they die long before the credits are done.

Jake LaMotta is my favorite wrong answer here. Not only didn't he die in the movie, but 32 years later, he's still alive.
