If two people from the same country share a prize, does that count as one or two?
Sep 5th, 2010 at 18:04 GMT
It counts as two since there are two Nobel laureates from that country.

excellent quiz, very well executed.

your source shows India has 9 Nobel laureates... Ireland has 6
Sep 8th, 2010 at 00:52 GMT
The source is wikipedia, so it keeps changing. Currently, Ireland has 8 and India has 9.

There seems to be a discrepancy as "List of Nobel Laureates by country" has Ireland down for 8, but elsewhere it says 6. I think 6 is the correct number. http://www.rasmussen.edu/student-life/blogs/main/nobel-prize-winners-by-country If anyone has a better source, that tallies up the number by country, please let me know.

Just goes to show you that just because you can name a Nobel laureate from a country doesn't mean they've gotten all that many. Gandhi, Fo, Maathai, Ahtisaari, et al. kept throwing me off track.

I agree with what many others here have said: by your criteria for Marie Curie, India should definitely be on this list. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_laureates_of_India) puts it at 9, and the source you have (http://www.rasmussen.edu/student-life/blogs/main/nobel-prize-winners-by-country/) puts India in the top 25, also with 9 Nobel laureates. For the record though, Gandhi never won a Nobel prize.

Nine Nobel prizes for Israel, eh? Not bad for a country that didn't even exist for the first 47 years that the prizes were awarded. Nice quiz, but it suffers from the same problem as many other Sporcle quizzes, I'm afraid -- the quiz answers need to be updated regularly. Awhile back, I did a quiz on female Nobel laureates, and within months it was out-of-date, as the next round of Nobel prizes yielded several new female laureates.

I've read somewhere that over 20% of all nobel prize winners have been jews. That's amazing!
