Also, the head of state in Canada is not the Prime Minister, it's the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, currently Queen Elizabeth II. Granted, she's got no real power, but she nominates a Governor General who represents her in her absence and signs official documents for her (i.e., laws) and it's her face that can be found of banknotes or stamps, not that of the Prime Minister.
The head of state in Japan in the Emperor, currently Akihito. Same idea as with Canada: he has no real political power, but he's technically the head of state.
As for France, both the President and the Prime Minister have separate powers, which are equally important (only the President can declare war, but only the Prime Minister can pass a bill).
Angela Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany, not its President, who is the official head of state.
You might want to be more precise in your terms and put "Prime Minister" or "Chancellor" etc. for each country, so people know whose name you're looking for. |
