'commonly used English name' would be Ivory Coast, not the French Cote d'Ivoire. Please either change the title/instructions to 'commonly used sporcle names' (or similar) or remove the Ivory Coast.

@daveon: It's certainly not just a sporcle thing - by request of their government, "Côte d'Ivoire" is used as the standard international name for the country. Which is more "commonly used" is certainly debatable, but a google-off gets 31m hits for "Côte d'Ivoire", compared to 26m for "Ivory Coast", so supporting this quiz...

Honestly, I think daveon was right. Cote d'Ivoire is indeed the more commonly used name/standard international name, but calling it an "English" name is probably misleading/confusing. People will read that and assume the quiz-maker meant the English "Ivory Coast", when in fact he means the opposite. It's better the way it is now.

Of all the Sporcle geography conventions we live with, calling it Ivory Coast but spelling it Cote d'Ivoire is bizarre. And yes, it has a second letter O....

@westknife & chemhee100: I almost did the same thing, because I thought first of South Africa and South Korea, and was proud of myself for remembering to think of the word "South" as a second-letter O word. It just didn't occur to me until a little later that "North" has the same property. Everyone's mind works a little differently (some of us are just glad they work at all...).

I typed 'korea', and then spent about 30 seconds staring at it and thinking "But the second letter's an 'O'" before the penny dropped - twice!

Modagascar? Nope. Nogeria? Nope. Donmark? Nope. I missed five. I was interrupted but I was panicking as the clock ran out too so I'm not sure that extra 15 seconds would've helped me get them all or not.

It used to be common to spell rumania with a u until about the 80s, not sure why that changed. And back then congo would have likely been on the list, and cote divoire definitely not.

No matter how many times I take geography quizzes, I can never seem to consider Kosovo as a country for some reason.
