Botswana and Zambia share a very short border (about 1 km or something)

They're not integral parts of their respective country, but I do think the 15 km France-Netherlands border on St Martin would work as a bonus.

Cuendillar - I'll work on a series of bonus answers for similar countries where it's not a border with the main part of the country, but still falls under that country's remit. Good suggestion.

Hilco - it's a weird one. It's not recognised in the CIA World Factbook (which seems to be the general source for these quizzes) but there is nonetheless a border of a few hundred feet in the Zambezi river. I'll work off the CIA Factbook for the quiz, but will add in Botswana / Zambia for a bonus. Good knowledge!

Great quiz! What about Spain and Morocco around the cities of Ceuta (7.3 sq m) and Melilla (4.7 sq m)? These are not a territory, but an integral part of Spain. I agree should only include integral territories (probably best to mention this in the instructions or you'll get lots of people claiming UK-Spain because of Gibraltar and so on). Also, there seems to be a glitch where if you type 'switzerland' on its own, the Switzerland-Liechtenstein entry shows up.

Great quiz. Really hard, but interesting -- I had no idea Azerbaijan shared borders with Turkey for instance.

Thanks for the comments - it's amazing how much you learn creating a quiz (and apologies for glitches - it's my first effort!). Spain and Morocco are now in (have done it combined for Ceuta and Melilla). Keep the comments coming - rather be hard at work getting it sorted than have a rubbish quiz!

I was under the impression that Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe & Bostwana meet at a "4 corners" spot, which would make Namibia & Zimbabwe meet at a point, as well as Zambia & Botswana. On most maps, the point looks so small, it could be one of the shortest borders for both pairs.

@koopa08: It's not a true "4 corners" spot. Zambia and Botswana border each other for about 150 meters at the Zambezi River. Namibia and Zimbabwe don't border each other, due to the intervening presence of Zambia and Botswana. The border is not listed by the source so the quiz creator has decided not to include it.

This is way tougher than I thought... Maybe adding continents as a hint would help a little bit? Time is good. 5 globes, and nominated. ;-))

What about Austria & Switzerland? Also, now that there are bridges connecting Sweden and Denmark, and Saudi Arabia with Bahrain, there are actual physical points where one can step over a border. CIA factbook would not recognize it, but the width of the bridge could be considered a border in such a case.

@Hamburger There are bridges between Singapore and Malaysia as well. But the title does mention land borders only. Although many "land borders" are rivers you can't cross, and these three are sea borders you can actually cross.

I might be wrong, but Greece and Turkey are seperated by the river Evros along their Balkan borders. However, there are places where the actual borderline is not considered on the river itself but on solid ground. I do not know if these land borders add up to less than 112km, but perhaps it is worth considering.

I apologize in asdvance if this quiz has been created by considering river/lake borders as land borders but this is not clarified anywhere... :)

Tough quiz, especially with trying to come up with all the different permutations of Eastern European countries that might border each other. The first answer I put in was Russia and North Korea, but somehow it didn't come up. I must have typo-ed it.

Isn't the Nigeria/Chad border over Lake Chad, making it not a land border?

Despite the misnomer, "land border" generally includes freshwater borders such as rivers and lakes.

This was harder than I thought it would be. I thought Zambia and Botswana had an official border but after further searching there is a gap between the two countries so both countries border the "No-Man's Land" (so to speak) but not each other. This also means Namibia and Zimbabwe don't border. You learn something every day...

Singapore does have an artificial land border with Malaysia at a causeway built on reclaimed land (not a bridge). The border cuts across the middle of the causeway, which is 23.5 m wide. This would be the shortest land border in the world if we count reclaimed land. Could be a bonus answer.
