	"Stage name" seems a really unfair categorization in many cases. Vanna White, for instance, was born Vanna Rosich, but she took her stepfather's name, White, before becoming famous; the same is true of Julie Andrews (though with more of a soap-opera story behind it), and roughly for Elle Macpherson (whose name is Eleanor, so it's not clear if "Elle" is a stage name or just a nickname). Clay Aiken seems to be similar--well before trying to become famous, he changed his name from his estranged father's name to his mother's maiden name. Cheryl Ladd and Pat Benatar aren't stage names; they're just married names.

	Thanks, Tahnan. I will re-investigate these. I tried to make sure they weren't married names but I guess I missed those.

	Johnny Cash's birth name was 'J.R. Cash' - just the initials. I believe he changed it to John when he joined the Army because they didn't accept initials, and Johnny when he became famous. I think that should count as a stage name?

	supernat: I checked Cash's bio on his official website. It says he was born "John R. Cash" so I don't feel Johnny Cash counts as a stage name.

	Fair enough. It's odd, it was in his autobiography 'Cash' that I read the J.R. thing.
