As a strict technicality, the "w" in both "Ivan Flew" and "Brawn Sager" should've been replaced as w is a vowel in both situations. As noted as StraightDope.com, (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/499/is-it-true-w-can-be-used-as-a-vowel ), the "w" is part of a diphthong and is, like "y," considered to be a semivowel.
Fun quiz, nonetheless. (The only real trouble I had with it was the fact that the vowels weren't consistent within the clues. For instance, in "Croup," we have two wrong vowels used while the correct title has only one vowel; then in "Lulu," we have one wrong vowel while the correct title has two different vowels. It forced a little more thinking than one would've expected--I'd see one "wrong" vowel such as the "u" in "Lulu" and ended up thinking, "Now was there a hit song called 'Lala' or 'Lili' that I've forgotten about?" Certainly not a game-killer but just a bit tougher than I think it needed to be.) |
