Hmmm ... should I feel bad that my first thought for Styx's "woman" was "Babe"?

The Billy Joel one was killing me. I guessed synonyms until I got it.

Great quiz, however, a parasol and an umbrella aren't synonyms. A parasol is big to shield you from the sun (para - against, sol - sun) and an umbrella is against the rain (paraplu in French, plu - rain)

I'm not sure truth and honesty are really synonyms, since one is a characteristic of a person and the other a characteristic of a statement.

@ThomGroentje: (Archived comments) Actually, umbrella comes from "umbel" or shadow, so it translates nicely as "little shadow". It is very similar to parasol.
@TheLanimal: Is that how you really feel? Very well, more appropriate version of the word now in place.

I also thought that an umbrella was intended for protection against rain, and a parasol against sun (as it is in Dutch, paraplu vs parasol). However, you're right rockgolf: apparently umbrella is an, em, umbrella term that covers both.

A protagonist isn't always a hero, so those words definitely are not synonyms.

Apparently I wasn't thinking quite enough in the rock and roll mindset because I missed both drug references.

VEC, I also missed the drug references. Also, I don't believe "undead" and "alive" are synonyms. If the listed artist had been the Cranberries instead of Pearl Jam, then my answer of "zombie" would have been correct.

war and battle are definitely not synonyms. a battle is one fight within a war. that should be changed.

I think people have to remember that synonyms are not definitions, but words with similar meanings such as those one would find in a thesaurus, or in a crossword clue. Personally, I could have used another minute. I didn't have time to think about each one and give an answer.

I agree with Shiwacca, a battle makes up a war... It would be like calling a branch a synonym for a tree.

If your first thought for a synonym to "steer" is "cow", you might be from Texas.

Most or all objections could be avoided by calling them "clues" instead of "synonyms", which are words with the same or nearly the same meaning. A "clue" can appropriately suggest or evoke a word without having the same meaning. ... I doubt many Texans think steers and cows are the same gender.

Please let's just call them all synonym-esque and stop whining... Although I probably typed "Zombie" 6 times for "Undead".

I hate to jump on the whiny Willy bandwagon, but I gotta agree that undead and alive are nowhere near synonyms. In fact, look up "undead" on dictionary.com and the first three words are "no longer alive." Other than that, great quiz.

Would holiday not be a better synonym than trip, for vacation, as no context can be given??

Zak6009: but they cover similar ground, and the song does say "I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo" I lol'd at "undead" because I knew what you meant - but it's true, undead does not mean "not dead"

Uno is not a synonym for one, it is just the same word in a different language.
