Ah, my major comment went away while I brewed coffee. But why did you change the capitals? - the A's seemed neater because you didn't have to exclude anyone. My last minor quibble is that I kept trying VT: it's the fifth to last postal abbreviation, alphabetically! Maybe that's just the late hour... Otherwise, great, as always.

I switched the capitals because Austin ended up being in two questions. I hate when you get double points for a single answer! Yes, VT comes after VA, but Virginia comes after Vermont alphabetically. If others have trouble with this question, I can switch it to the final five postal abbreviations as opposed to the final five states alphabetically.

I agree about the postal abbreviations. I misread the instructions and thought it was asking for the postal codes that are last in alphabetic order. Otherwise, great quiz!

I really enjoy these quizzes, as a rule, but I don't like spelling-based geography stuff. (IE, how many capitals have 7 letters?). So I took slightly less pleasure in this one than in its predecessors, because a third of its questions were to do with spelling, not geography.

@msukent: Thanks for actually answering my question about the capitals. That makes good sense now.

I'd have to add Minneapolis to the cities without their name in a pro sports team. All four teams are named after the state, you didn't say the 5 largest cities without a sports team.

jhust: Since the cities without their name in a pro sports team deals with the cities' municipal populations and not metro area populations, Minneapolis fits the criteria but is not large enough to make the top 5.

@jhust86: all 5 of those cities are bigger than Minneapolis.

My bad, I always forget how small some of the cities in US actually are, even though the metro area is huge.

Yes, the VT vs VA thing was very confusing. The wording of the category made me think that "alphabetically" went with "postal abbreviations". Otherwise good quiz.

Saying "besides Santa Fe" in the fifth question sounds like a copout to me. There are six state capitals that start with S and you arbitrarily selected one to omit so it would fit the five-answer mold. Why not just find another category with five answers instead?

I was surprised that New Orleans didn't make the cut for the population decrease question, but I guess it lost so much that it's now below #50 in population.

if you're doing the postal abbreviations the way you are, you might as well just list the last five states alphabetically.

Not sure why BiloxiSean got downrated—the state is, after all, officialy "The State of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations." It's not commonly used, since that would be silly, but I think it's a fair bonus.

I agree with either changing the answer to VT or changing the question. I'm with J_QUALTR: there's no reason to make us use postal abbreviations if you aren't alphabetizing the abbreviations themselves. It's a little confusing. Still a good quiz.

Yeah. VT; otherwise too confusing. (Of course, it will get complaints either way, because you really are asking two questions in one.)

Why type in the postal abbreviations if you're looking for the state name? Or, why not type in the postal abbreviation for the least populous states?

"Gimme the last five states alphabetically using their postal abbreviation." is very confusing. I thought you wanted the last five alphabetical postal codes and kept trying vermont (VT) when in fact I guess you wanted the last five states alphabetically, but we had to type in their postal codes rather than type them out??? Could you word the directions a little more clearly? Like, "Gimme the last five states alphabetically (type in their postal codes)."

if you want the last 5 alphabetically just ask for it. When you require the postal codes you confuse the situation. Other than that it was a good quiz. However I don't mean to sound like that was a small issue. That was pretty stupid caveat and completely ruined the quiz.

i disagree, yes it was a little confusing but it became obvious after trying vt for the umpteenth time that wasn't what you were looking for... funny how i got the rhode island bonus though trying for least populous states... and i also agree a bit more time, but it was still doable if you were going for a blitz

Astonished to see Louisville pop up for a large city without a sports team in its name when Minneapolis had not worked. Did not realize that Louisville had a city-county merger in 2003. Louisville population 2000: 256,000. In 2010: 597,000. My Sporcle learning for the day.

To all those complaining about not understanding the postal codes one...first, the directions aren't THAT hard to understand. Second, the obvious reason for doing it that way is so Wyoming won't get double counted since it's also an answer to the small population question. Third, it's hard to believe that anyone smart enough to enjoy Sporcle is not smart enough to IMMEDIATELY relaize what is being asked after VT doesn't work the first two times you try it.

Tricky one for a Brit like me! I guessed Rhode Island for the low population category and it popped up in the "ends with S" one - I'd never have got it otherwise.
