| I called this "Draft Do-Overs" because if NBA teams could redo the drafts, the players would probably be picked in this order. There's a few where they might swap places, but for the most part, I think they players would fall this way. And I used 1976 as the starting point because that was the first draft after the ABA folded, so there weren't competing drafts. It gets kind of tricky before that with both leagues drafting the same guys. Also, the lists from 2004 onwards will probably change a lot over the years as more guys meet the minutes played requirement. (Al Jefferson, Andrew Bynum, Greg Oden, Carl Landry, Kevin Martin, etc.) All of those guys were in the top 3 for their draft classes without the MP requirement, and I didn't like leaving them off, but I had to stay consistent. Otherwise, I'd have to include guys like Leon Powe and Rodrigue Beaubois. Nothing against those guys, but that kind of defeats the purpose of this quiz. (On that note, Cedric Ceballos fell 288 minutes short of qualifying, and being the top pick in 1990.) It also blows my mind how completely awful some of these drafts were (I'm looking at you, 2000...) and how absolutely loaded others were (1984, 1996, 2003... You should see the list of guys who didn't even make the cut for the top five in '96. Seriously, go look at that draft sometime. You could've thrown a dart at a board of names and landed an All-Star. Of course, the Clippers were the first team to REALLY screw up their pick.) |
