I'm curious what your sources are. If your country areas are correct, then quite a few of these are off according to the US census bureau, a couple by a lot (Michigan, especially, is about 100,000 sq km smaller than the UK). It's a great idea, though.

if you're going to do this using U.S. states use square miles.

@antlyon: Maybe would be good with both square miles and square kilometres? Square miles may be what the US states use, but almost all the other countries use square kilometres!
