| @Ulkomaalainen: do you mean that "Monaco" in Italian can have two meanings? 1) Monaco and 2) München / Munich. (Both names have the same etymology, the Latin word for "monk"). If you want to distinguish one place from the other, you can refer to the German city as "Monaco di Baviera". Also, it's understandable that the Latin name "Vindobona" evolved to Vienna, Vienne, Viena, Wien, etc., but how on earth did it become the Hungarian Bécs? |
