"New York" is the name of the city. Good quiz, amazing that Anchorage is bigger than #2 and #3 combined.

I added "New York" to be accepted. Any other suggestions anyone?

It be interesting to see a quiz with all cities, as Yakutat City, Alaska is an astounding 9,459.3 square miles (7,650.5 square miles land). It is bigger than New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island.

Juneau's population is only 30,000... Yes, a quiz including smaller cities would be interesting though very difficult.

Is it just a coincidence that Red Lobster and Olive Garden are owned by the same company and your name is LobsterGarden?

Nice, knoxvillian. Yea, Louisville consolidated with Jefferson County in 2003 and is now nearly 400 square miles. It isn't listed in the source as that was as of 2000.

Also, like Louisville and Nashville, among others, Honolulu is a consolidated city-county comprising 599.8 square miles of land.

I thought Hawaii didn't have cities? The census bureau defines a CDP as the 'city' of Honolulu, which is only 105 square miles.

@Onno: If you go to Honolulu's official website (http://www.honolulu.gov/main/government/) it says "Official website of the City and County of Honolulu" so it apparently is a city.

It should read "New York, New York", not "New York City, New York". Adding the city would be like saying "Houston City, Texas", it's just wrong.

Actually, it is OK if he puts the city beacuse on the t shirts it says I Heart NYC. New York City. New York can be called New York City, sabresfan.

No wonder Texas has so many populous cities.

The word "city" is often appended to differentiate it from the state of New York, which is incidentally, often called "New York state." This is akin to calling the state of Washington "Washington state" to differentiate it from the capital of the US, and is not a part of its official name.
