the main answers in this quiz are the names that the presidents were most commonly known by, but some alternate acceptable answers include their real first names and a few nicknames.

I think you should be forced to know the actual first names, like Hiram and Thomas.

Taft was usually referred to as Howard Taft, but with Howard being his middle name, William was his first name. And I missed that.

I like that you can get almost a third of the answers if you just guess John, James, or William.

re "some alternate acceptable answers include their real first names" ... oddly enough, Jimmy Carter was so opposed to using his real name that he once actually went to court to make sure his name did not appear on an election ballot as "James". Said that if they didn't list him as "Jimmy", he would withdraw. [I learned that from a TV show; they displayed one of the court documents.] Anyway, super quiz! Likely to end up on the list of most-tried quizzes.

Grover Cleveland's first name was Steven (or Stephen, if you like). Woodrow Wilson's first name was Thomas. There's nothing in the quiz description that says, "Pick the name he was known by." Super-easy quiz, though.

Sweet quiz, made me feel like that U.S. History class actually paid off in some way...although I think it's funny how many presidents were named James and John.

Great quiz, though for a non-American, this is one of those ones where having lived a long time in the States would have helped. A lot.

To make it harder, shrink your browser window so you can't see the name above the blank or the grid below the blank. (I had to scroll up twice to get the name--once for the first Harrison, who I forgot came at that point, and once for Harding, which I knew was Harding but needed it confirmed when "William" kept not working.) [Followup note to Eliot: indeed, Carter was the only president inaugurated under a nickname.]

Too easy. If you're and American and didn't get them all, shame on you. I think I had to know the Presidents' names (in order) since the 5th grade.

If you missed any of these, you're American and above the age of 6, shame on you and your elementary school teachers. They've failed you.

I completely agree with orbit. To make this quiz even remotely challenging, it should only accept the given first name of those presidents who went by their middle name. After all, the quiz asks for "the first names of the US Presidents". Woodrow WASN'T Wilson's first name, etc., just the name he went by. So possibly four tricky ones, if you include Eisenhower. Ford should probably accept either name.

Actually, 5 tricky ones, with Eisenhower included. Coolidge was John. Cleveland was Stephen. Wilson was Thomas. And Grant was born Hiram Ulysses Grant. A clerical error at West Point resulted in the change. He didn't protest because, supposedly, he didn't like his given initials spelling out HUG.

Yeah Grit, I find it interesting that there's never a 100% score for an answer. Does that mean that someone really didn't know Washington's first name, or does it reflect that perhaps someone started a quiz and then left or blew it off?
