1900 the century or 1900 the year? Also, where? I realise it's most likely USA, but you should add it in the title anyway.

Funny that I got more of these than I did the modern boys names, or either the modern or 1900 girls names. Just name all the old guys you know, eh?

Just to clarify: it is 1900 the year. I added "in America" to the title as well.

its a pretty good quiz...what I didnt realize is that more than 1 variation of the same name was a part of the solution! I mean Jesse/Jessie??? thats kinda silly

There are more than one variations of certain names because that is how it was listed in the U.S. census.

Man, I'm glad I wasn't born 100 years ago. If my parents had named me Clarence, Herman, or Ernest, I'd be embarrassed to show my face outside.

ummmmmmm, i don't believe it. i know the source should be credible, but think about it. haven't more people been born almost every year since 1900? the birth rate rarely goes down, right? too many of these names are old school. there should be way more "modern" names. michael should be WAY higher. and matthew isn't even on here. recount.

@gopaladins This shows the most popular boys names of children born ONLY in 1900. That's one year.

Johnnie? Seriously? Enough people naming their babies went with Johnnie instead of John or Jonathan to make it the 84th most popular name in 1900? And not even Johnny with a Y, but Johnnie?? How bizarre.

I'm going to have to agree with gopaladins about the credible source. I know many people with granparents named Jermajesty. Theres no way something crazy like Philip was more popular then.

@mattbal17: You've really never met a single 110-year-old named Herman? I don't what kind of 110-year-olds you're hanging out with, then, because I know of at least 4 named Herman, and that's just within my own personal group of friends.

Charles... Charlie, John... Johnnie, Edward... Eddie...Ed, William... Willie... Will. I don't think too many parents would back in 1900 would simply name their son 'Eddie', 'Ed' or 'Willie'. More likely they would have named them by the fullname of Edward or William and use the other as a nickname, therefore only the fullname should have been included in the original count.

I was gonna type Homer as a joke but I didn't. But by Odin's beard Homer made the list. How many Homer Simpsons were born in 1900..... Mind boggling

Wow, awfully good quiz. Much, much more fun than I really expected it to be, if I may be honest. I'm rather amazed at some of the names that weren't in the top 100, or were much lower than I expected (i.e. Michael). I'm also rather amazed that I thought of "Everett" and "Leroy"- I don't think I've ever met an Everett or Leroy in my entire life.
Excellent job, Leezanne. I hope you make many more quizzes.

In a few years they'll be laughing at the names Madison, Dakota, and Brooklyn. I thought about names of grandparents, aunts, and uncles and, sure enough, they were on here.

Was surprised not to find gospel names Matthew, Mark and Luke. More time, more names.
