1) I adore that you would make an entire quiz about 1789.
2) Sorry I haven't emailed you back- been super-busy and (as is my style) super-forgetful. I promise, I will get to it... eventually. |

| Definitely a good year for a quiz. |

| Great quiz, but one minor error; the French Revolution was not begun by the Storming of the Bastille. It was started on June 17 when the newly-founded National Assembly declared the Tennis Court Oath, which essentially said that they would give France a constitution. |

| So for November 13 I typed in "death", then deleted it and tried "taxes", then got frustrated and gave up. I knew I was on to something! |

| They were still burning people at the stake in 1789?!?! That's almost as incredible as the educational power of Sporcle. |

| This quiz was inspired by "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens, which I just finished reading and would recommend to anyone who hasn't read it. |

| Maybe accept just "Rights of Man" ? |

| Wow, I can't imagine there are many years prior to 1900 where so many events happened that are still famous today. |

| We'd still be burning at the stake if it wasn't for the carbon footprint. |

| Too Franco-centric. |

| The executee was strangled to death before burning by the 18th century, so this form of execution was ceremonial. However, it is always refreshing to remind ourselves of the barbarism of out ancestors. |

| Cocky, It was 1789! How could it not be at least somewhat Franco-centric!? |
 | Bismarck: | May 8th, 2010 at 07:59 GMT | | 6 points |
| I would even say it's really US-centric |

| Accept 'burnt at the stake' for 'burning at the stake,' maybe? |
 | steelwolf: | May 8th, 2010 at 10:50 GMT | | 9 points |
| You should probably accept "Salle du Jeu de Paume" for "Tennis Court", as it really wasn't a tennis court. |
 | justonemore: | May 8th, 2010 at 11:06 GMT | | 8 points |
| 'Rights of Man' and 'Droits de l'homme' perhaps? |
 | Fish1987: | May 8th, 2010 at 12:11 GMT | | 0 points |
| Should definitely accept "burned at the stake", gave us after trying that and it didn't work. Also did both "death" and "taxes" separately. |

| Nice quiz, LTH. I would suggest more of these. |
 | Oddish: | May 8th, 2010 at 13:32 GMT | | 4 points |
| "Jeu de paume" should work, that's what it's normally called. |
 | LTH: | May 8th, 2010 at 13:39 GMT | | 7 points |
| @Oddish and steelwolf, I did have 'serment du jeu de paume' as an alternate but I now realize that means 'tennis court oath' so thanks for pointing that out. Now 'jeu de paume' is also an alternate. |
