By the end of this quiz the word thumb seems really weird
Apr 22nd, 2010 at 16:40 GMT
It might be regional variation, but I've only ever heard a bad gardener described as having a black thumb, never a brown one. Could you perhaps accept both?
Jun 8th, 2010 at 03:38 GMT
Wow didn't know you could pull off so many. Was looking for Siskel and Ebert. How about Numb Thumb for the video game one? Aslo known as Guitar Hero Thumb.

There's "being all thumbs" as a phrase for not having manual dexterity.
Aug 22nd, 2010 at 09:40 GMT

Tried to go with "What has two thumbs and doesn't care....this guy" for expression of defiance
Jan 21st, 2011 at 17:27 GMT
The word "thumb" looks and sounds really weird after you type it about three times.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 17:36 GMT
Tried every spelling I could think of for Opposable thumb, but never thought to pluralize it.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 17:41 GMT
For something to do when you're bored, I tried "Sit around with your thumb up your..." but it didn't like it. Oh, and I think using the specific gaming system for the condition is unneccessary. It can apply to any gaming system and "gamer's thumb" should be acceptable.

I got "twiddle one's thumbs" when I actually started twiddling my thumbs as I was thinking. Love it. And I have to agree with Guinevere.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 18:17 GMT
Ohh, FEATURE of primates. Not fear. Wow, I'm tired.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 18:31 GMT
Thumb wrestled with this one for a while.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 18:35 GMT
Maybe accept "thumbprints" for the shortbread treat? And the singular "opposable thumb"?
Jan 21st, 2011 at 18:59 GMT
Well, thumb doesn't sound like a word anymore, so there's that.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 19:04 GMT
Uk usage would be "thumb a lift" not "ride"... Accept both?
Jan 21st, 2011 at 20:06 GMT
Don't worry, oshj, at first I actually thought the answer was "Sit on one's thumb." But your formula made me laugh out loud.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 20:21 GMT
Anyone else try thumbwrestling and playing "Where is Thumbkin?" for a toddler's passtime? Also, "thumbing" it for hitchhiking?
Jan 21st, 2011 at 21:49 GMT
85.3% have never heard of thumbprint cookies. Myself included.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 22:11 GMT
I tried 'thumb biting' and 'I bite my thumb at you' for the Shakespeare one, and I was disappointed in the lack of alternate answers.
Jan 21st, 2011 at 22:36 GMT
thumb index is your one and only bonus

I know people who have brown thumbs for reasons entirely different than being bad gardeners. And on a related note, as I post this, the quiz has 6,969 plays.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 02:11 GMT
Nintendo thumb is a bit out of date now, no? Regardless, lovely little quiz.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 03:33 GMT
By the pricking of my thumbs, the right answer for Shakespeare did not come.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 03:36 GMT
Another hallmark of primates is fingernails, so thumbnail might be an acceptable alternative.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 03:45 GMT
I lol'd at the url.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 04:06 GMT
Kept trying different iterations of thumb wrestling for "when you're bored." That one seems to come up in a lot of spots and should probably be at least a bonus answer.
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 04:43 GMT
Took me forever to get the expression of defiance. If it followed the patterns of others, it would have just accepted "thumb nose."
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 05:32 GMT
I said what the hell and tried "carpal thumb"
Jan 22nd, 2011 at 07:02 GMT
I agree. Thumbprint doe not need cookie. There is no thumbprint donut.
Jan 23rd, 2011 at 02:42 GMT
Tried "opposed thumb" and "opposing thumb" - more interested in chem than bio - oh well.
Jan 23rd, 2011 at 23:17 GMT
I find it hard to believe that half the people didn't know "thumb a ride". It's what I did all through college.

I tried "thumb ones nose" and it wouldn't accepot it. "one's" means "one is" and should NOT be used as a possessive. Having said that, it was a fun quiz.
Jan 28th, 2011 at 03:23 GMT
quent: I've always said "bum a ride"... never realized that I might be mis-saying it until now. Also, yeah, I tried about fifteen combinations of "bite" and "thumb" for the Shakespeare one before giving up.
Feb 26th, 2011 at 21:34 GMT
I love jam thumbprints. Then again I rarely meet a cookie I don't like.
Feb 26th, 2011 at 21:36 GMT
One's is a possessive like Jesse's Girl.
May 10th, 2011 at 02:14 GMT
Accept "Under your thumb" for "Subordinate to"? Maybe "Suck your thumb" for "Toddler's favorite activity?" I also second the idea of adding "thumbwrestling" for a bored activity, or even a new clue altogether. Fun quiz!
Jun 1st, 2011 at 23:39 GMT
For the record, it's Andersen rather than Anderson. :-) Fun quiz!
Jul 8th, 2011 at 16:01 GMT
Nintendo Thumb ftw
Mar 6th, 2012 at 22:31 GMT
I always called them "santa's thumbprints" so I missed that one.

Am I the only one who tried thumbitis for the condition? Also who twiddles their thumbs when we have sporcle?
