	The pronunciation of February must be a regional thing. As an adult, I have never heard someone pronounce the first 'r' unless they were pretending to be pretentious or "fancy". It's always "Feb-yoo-ehr-ee". Also, I disagree with MovieDynamic on "core"... The fact that 'e' is silent in tons of words just makes it a great pool to pick from.

	@Detektor: That's the entire purpose of the letter y...to represent the "ia" sound. It would be like saying the letter x is ALWAYS silent, because it can be replaced by "ks."

	Sparxx's comment reminds me: the "Fall" clue should be changed to indicate that you mean the season, not the verb. Or, to make the quiz more world-friendly, "the season after summer" or something like that.

	I agree that mortgage is fine as is. February should come back in; I've never known anyone, ever, who uses the first R. Also, I enjoy the comment criticizing the silent E because there are so many words with a silent E. Sorry? I'm rating this five stars.

	I second the notion to return February; however, this would make the columns uneven, and despite a lack of OCD in everyday life uneven columns really rub me the wrong way.

	Rather than go with february for r, might as well go all the way. Everyone knows New York is spelled with a silent "r" -- N-e-w Y-a-w-k. Febuary, that's just wrong!

	It cracks me up every time there's a quiz like this and people are so insistent that the way they pronounce something where they live is the only correct way to say it. Get over yourselves! It's Feb-yoo-ary where I live. The only person I've ever heard pronounce the first 'r' was a four year old who was learning to read.

	I agree that some of these (including February, which I DO pronounce with the first r intact) are pronounced differently in different places. But that doesn't make the concerns expressed about the quiz any less valid. The answers should not depend on where you come from, they should be clear cut. Which is difficult for a quiz like this, but should not be impossible.

	@Zelzega -- Your teacher was wrong if you were told that pronouncing both "r"s is incorrect. The r pronunciation is the preferable one. Though it has become acceptable to pronounce the word fe-byoo-wer-e (prolonged laziness = acceptability), it is by no means standard. ----------- There are plenty of words that are less ambiguous, like dossier. If the author was really ambitious, LTH could have used "Voulez vous coucher avec moi?: silent z,silent s, silent r. The expression has been coopted into the english language thanks to its use by such notables as Tennessee Williams and Patti Labelle. (But if memory serves me well, unless you're looking for a menage a trois, you should use tu and not vu.)

	I enjoyed this...it's even more fun when English is not your first/only language...(German is mostly phonetic with no silent letters!)...I now live on the East coast of England, and here we say Wensdee and Febree. You have to love this screwed-up language!

	@BHW: If `ghost' were spelled `gost', it would still rhyme with `host' and `post', neither of which needs an `h' to lengthen the vowel.
