| I've seen a significant part of The Big Parade on TCM. It's an "innocent lads in WWI" plot. It's silent, but the language on the title cards is surprisingly adult, with uses of "hell", "damn" and even "sons of b-----s". (And that was quite literal - it only showed the first letter and dashes. The film was released before the days of the Hayes code forbid such language and graphic content. Nonetheless, it must have been quite shocking to greatgrandma, or however many generations you need to go back. |
