Steve McQueen was a prisoner in Papillon. And I think Brad Pitt was a fisherman in Benjamin Button?

Steve Martin was a con artist in Leap of Faith, and Christopher Guest was a singer ("rock star" is arguable) in A Mighty Wind.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a screenwriter/playwright in State and Main, and there's a scene at a bookstore where a book he wrote is being sold. I think that should count for "author."

Should accept Legends of the Fall for the Pitt fisherman answer, he does an awful lot of sailing the world in a small boat so would have subsisted on caught fish.

Steve Martin was also a con man in a small movie called "The Spanish Prisoner", one of his few serious roles.

Robert Redford is definitely a con man in Sneakers, which has to be added. Also, Bill Murray plays Hunter S. Thompson in Where the Buffalo Roam, so that should count for reporter. Good quiz overall.

as a teacher, i guess it's fitting that was the only category where i managed to come up with all of the movies. also, Grosse Pointe Blank is way too far down on the most guessed list. such a great movie - go add it to your netflix queues right now if you've never seen it!

Steve McQueen was definitely a prisoner is Papillon. Yes he was a criminal too, but most prisoners are also criminals. The whole plot of Papillon is the escape from the prison.

I almost don't want to admit I've seen this movie, but Chevy Chase plays a reporter (meteorologist) in Snow Day. The only reason it popped into my head is the current weather situation.
