Wigglytuff is really more of a rabbit than the Nidoran family. And did you make that source up yourself? Someone's badly-made blog with 7 whole followers is hardly reliable.
As well as that you went against it, as it states quite clearly and correctly that Hitmonlee/Chan are only named after Bruce Lee / Jackie Chan, they have different celebrity names depending on the language they're written in. They're based on a kickboxer and a boxer.

You've misspelled Victreebel
Feb 3rd, 2010 at 17:37 GMT
Nice concept, just needs a bit of refining. You did misspell Victreebel, I don't understand why someone decided to downvote that comment.

Alright i fixed some of the things mentioned and @Matty: I used a couple of different sources but since I only could put one down, I decided to use that one because it had the most information. I changed it to a different one i used, this one seems a little more reputable.

i am pretty sure that slowpoke and slowbro are based on slothes not hippos

Slowbro is a Hermit Crab according to the the dex. Which is about as stupid as a hippo, but hey, it's official and this quiz isn't.
Feb 6th, 2010 at 12:22 GMT
A Slowbro is definitely not a Hermit Crab.

I'm kind of wondering why Drifloon wasn't accepted for Balloon? Granted, it is a hot-air balloon, but that is a balloon nonetheless.
Mar 3rd, 2010 at 04:54 GMT
Do you have proof that the nido family are rabbits and that slowpoke and slowbro are hippos? Those seem pretty far-fetched (no joke intended) And Inyro, it's not a gen 1 pokemon, that's why.
Mar 3rd, 2010 at 09:06 GMT
I got no proof but if you look closely at those pokemon they resemble those animals. They were closer to rabbits and hippos then any other thing I could think of.
Apr 2nd, 2010 at 16:04 GMT
^^^i totally see the resemblance...i got slowpoke right away-definitely looks like a hippo in my opinion
Sep 6th, 2010 at 20:58 GMT
A lot of these don't match your source. At all. Also Dewgong is based off of a dugong (which is like a manatee, but it isn't a seal).

nice quiz, but lapras has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with a sea turtle at all. it is loosely based on a plesiosaur, a prehistoric marine animal with four flippers much like lapras has. the shell-like structure is the only thing that may suggest a turtle, but not really. otherwise very good!
Oct 25th, 2010 at 21:25 GMT
I always thought snorlax was a cat-like creature, and I never would have guessed that slowpoke/slowbro were hippos, but I guess I sort of see it now.
Nov 15th, 2010 at 14:02 GMT
Egrip is right about lapras being a plesiosaur. Just because it has a shell doesn't mean lapras is a sea turtle. Also, psyduck and golduck are based off duck billed platypuses, not ducks. Just because there's an animal in the pokemon's name (VenoNAT, zuBAT) doesn't necessarily mean it's based off of that animal.
Nov 23rd, 2010 at 04:40 GMT
Good idea, however I feel like some of the answers are a bit arbitrary. I had never thought of Snorlax as a bear before....

Technically, Togepi is a Generation II Pokemon, even though it was introduced in the Kanto region in the show.
Dec 20th, 2010 at 18:20 GMT
First of all, I just want to point out something that doesn't really matter but was bothering me - you said the goal was to guess what real-life thing each Pokemon is based on, but phoenices and dragons don't actually exist. Now onto things that matter just a wee bit more...there are no bears, hippos, or rabbits in the first generation. I suppose Wigglytuff might be a rabbit, but I always thought it was a balloon like Jigglypuff. That being said, some Pokemon aren't based on anything (Abra, Kadabra, and Alakazam might resemble something - I personally think they look kind of like cats, or at least Abra does - but they aren't actually supposed to be anything specific), and others are the incarnation of someting incarnate (the Nidoran family is described as poison dart, or poison drill, or something along those lines). Case in point: just because it looks like something doesn't mean it is. Also, Mew technically isn't a Gen. Pokemon. The original group of Pokemon only went up through Mewtwo. Trivial point at best, but a point nonetheless.
Dec 23rd, 2010 at 21:43 GMT
@BetterIfIStay90 Mew is definitely a Gen. 1 Pokemon. It's Bulbpedia page (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mew_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29) clearly shows that it is a Gen. 1 Pokemon. And if Mew isn't Gen. 1, then Mewtwo shouldn't be either because it's a clone of Mew. Just because Mew is an event Pokemon doesn't mean that it doesn't belong to that gen. Other than that. I agree that some Pokemon aren't based off anything and that some of these don't make sense.
Dec 28th, 2010 at 02:57 GMT
My mistake. I've just seen a lot of Pokemon merchandise listing the "original 150" (up through Mewtwo), not 151 (Mew).
Dec 29th, 2010 at 02:16 GMT
Sometimes Mew is considered a "bonus" Gen 1 Pokemon because it wasn't available during regular gameplay; you could only get it through an official event. You know that ones that never seem to come to the area you live in forcing you to use an action replay to obtain them...those kind. lol

Some of these were hard. Good though.

You need to decide whether this is a quiz about what pokémon are based on, or what their English names are based on. In many cases these are not the same things. Remember that the English names are not the original names and the original Japanese names often give a better understanding of what the pokémon was based on. For instance Abra, Kadabra and Alakazam are based on psychics ho bend spoons with their mind, specifically, Uri Geller, and not on magic spells. Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee are actually based on the sports boxing and kickboxing and their Japanese names reference Hiroyuki Ebihara (a famous Japanese boxer) and Tadashi Sawamura (the world's first kickboxer).

Nice quiz, but Lapras is based on the Loch Ness Monster, Ditto is based on a smiley face, and Slowpoke and Slowbro are based on salamanders, not hippos.
