The system that actually signifies the best fielders --- notice the absence of Derek Jeter
Nov 15th, 2009 at 21:16 GMT
But Derek Jeter does that superfluous jumping throw thing! And he once threw himself into the stands! And what about that time Jeremy Giambi forgot to slide? Clearly he is a defensive god!

You forgot about the logo on his baseball cap too (it makes his defense THAT much more impressive)! He might just be in the conversation of the "greatest fielder of all time" up there with Dave Kingman and Adam Dunn!

Yeah, his defense has been below average for awhile. I obviously can't argue with you baseball geniuses (sarcastic) considering the fact that he was above average as a fielder in 2009 which you would know not only if you watched games, which I doubt the two of you did because you are clearly just haters with little actual knowledge, but also if you look at any defensive metrics from this past season.

If "defensive metrics," you mean UZR, then you should know that a season's worth of UZR data is only about as meaningful as 50-55 games worth of hitting statistics, which means that it's more likely that he hasn't actually improved.
