For those who have never played "Taboo", here's the gist: You're given a word or phrase on the top of a card, and you have to describe it to your teammate(s) without using five other words or phrases listed below it. For example, if the word is "Kite", you can't say "Fly", "Wind", "String", "Ben Franklin", or "Sky", nor any version of those words (so no "Flying" and no "Franklin"). Thus, I could try to make my teammate guess "Kite" by saying, "It's a thin diamond on the end of a thread, and when you run with it, it floats up into the air."
The point of this quiz is to come up with those five words- so if you saw "Kite", the answers would be "Fly", "Wind", etc. The kicker is that- like with "Ben Franklin"- the taboo words aren't necessarily those most closely related to the word, but the ones most likely to be used in describing it. Be careful with words that have multiple meanings- for "Smear", you can't say "Lipstick", but you also can't say "Campaign".
I took all of the words (including the examples above) directly from the version of the game in my living room.

This is a great quiz. You should make sequels.

Thanks! Credit for inspiration goes to sproutcm, who yesterday made a quiz based on "Outburst". If enough people enjoy this, I definitely will make more, though to be honest, I went through A LOT of cards to find ones that I thought had just the right difficulty and variety. Still, I'd definitely do it again given a positive reaction (and heck, I've made quizzes that took much, much longer to create).
Rest assured, I definitely appreciate the support.

Great job and great choice of cards. Those Taboo cards are evil, and I barely broke half, but I loved the challenge. My friends and I went through a phase, where we'd make up our own Taboo cards for like "Love" and we'd forbid you to say "THE, HEART, IS, ARE, YOU" just to make talking difficult.

Hahahaha, that is brilliant. I should make my own Taboo cards! And of course, thanks for the kind words. :)

By the way, for "Heart", I'd go with "Pumps Blood. In chest. Beat beat beat."

To get Diamond... I would say heart, club, spade... Surprised it didn't try to close that possibility a bit. Kicking, you need more of these, desperately. And nominated.

Great idea for a quiz. The only thing I would suggest is accepting "briefcase" for "suitcase", but that's entirely up to you. It's just something I tried that seems close enough that it could be acceptable but different enough to be understandable if it's not.

I love Taboo, and this was a great quiz. I want to see plenty of sequels.

Heard of this game, never have played it before, but this quiz sure made me want to. Great job, and agree with the rest: sequel and front page worthy. Surprised "UFO" wasn't taboo for "alien, I figure that would be a gimme.

Thanks so much, everyone! And fear not- based on the response, I will definitely make more. Alas, it will require going through even more cards- the set I have was published in 1989, so I have to make sure the words aren't at all topical- but I relish the opportunity to please the Sporcle masses. Bringing y'all joy brings me a lot of joy. ;)
Not tonight, though, as it is time to sleep. Enjoy your Friday, everyone!

Kicking222, this is genius. My set is from about 2000 and my favorite thing about playing it today is how our associations for these words have changed. So with "Madonna," I couldn't say "material girl," but I could say that she's divorced from Guy Richie. I actually went out of my way to come up with ways to describe the word that should be taboo if we were using a new game. In summation, Sporcle should up your monthly quiz limit so you can make many many more of these.

Hahaha, thanks, sbelkoski. If I wasn't so lazy, I definitely would make more... the issue truly is finding cards from my 20-year-old set where all of the words still make sense, and where new words wouldn't be included (for one of these quizzes, I wanted to use "Golf", but I couldn't because "Tiger Woods" would certainly be taboo now).
I also have a secret: As a "pre-release" quizmaker- that is, I was lucky enough to be among the dozen or so Sporclers who had the game creation tools before the advent of User Created games- I have an increased limit on the number of games I can contribute per month by default. I could make three or four of these a week if I had the time/patience/will power... and since I love making people happy, and since people seem to really enjoy these quizzes, I absolutely
make a bunch more.
I really should get a new version of the game- not just to make better quizzes, but because "Taboo" is completely freakin' awesome in general.

I was so off on Buffalo. First I guessed Sabres for the hockey team, and then I went on to start guessing all about the city.
