| @CrimsonE: I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. While the point you made about gross meaning less than it did in the past may be true, the fact that you do not consider Avatar to be an 'iconic' film, and are unsure of the status of Titanic, leads me to completely discredit your opinion. Now, I don't want to sound like I'm a James Cameron fanboy, which believe me, I'm most certainly not, but you can't argue with the affect that both movies had on the film industry. Titanic swept through the Oscar's like it was nothing, a feat that most films will never come close to accomplishing. Then on the other hand, Avatar set forth a new era in film making, one filled with expensive special effects and three dimensional technologies. It provided a gateway ,as you will, to the films that we should expect to see in years to come and in my personal opinion, while it may not be considered the greatest movie of all time, it will always be considered a film makers technological standard, a standard which can only be pushed with future films. They are the highest grossing films for a reason. Now, I hope you don't interpret this as me saying, that you are completely wrong. The films that you mentioned were great in their own right too, and many of the films on this list can never be considered 'iconic', but you have to still realize that some without a doubt, must be. |
