There are lots of alternate oaths. Alan Moore wrote on for a planet so distant that the concept of light its was incomprehensible. (The original oath on this planet was translated to "In [untranslatable], in [untranslatable], no evil shall escape my [untranslatable]. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power: [untranslatable]".
The new oath became:
In loudest din or hush profound
My ears catch evil's slightest sound
Let those who toll out evil's knell
