| @Underdog518 I would carefully define an adaptation as drawing not just inspiration but some significant combination of plot-points, setting, characters, and title, from another film, novel, short story, ancient text, play, or musical. Star Wars, for example, is a very derivative work, but Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, 'The Force', the Death Star--these are all original to Lucas & Co. in their own right. Pirates of the Caribbean is inspired and loosely based upon a thematic amusement park ride. Tangled is much closer to an adaptation, being very roughly based upon (and once titled) Rapunzel, but so much of it is completely original. (I admit though if they'd kept it called 'Rapunzel' I probably wouldn't have it on this quiz.) All art is derivative; I need to draw the line on "original" somewhere sensible. @AwesomeSauce This list includes only the *first* of each of those series. Star Wars = original, included. Empire Strikes Back = sequel, not included. |
