| Great quiz, but I want to ask what I hope is seen as a legitimate question. I have now conditioned myself on Sporcle to thinking of "Democratic Republic of Congo" as a "D" country. My question is... WHY has that been decided? I'm not an idiot, I know the long-form distinguishes it from the "other Congo"--"Republic of Congo." But it's just used for distinguishing purposes. In the end, alphabetically it still should be a "C" country. We are re-categorizing a country because we choose to use it's long-form. No other country gets classified by it's long-form. Besides, I've seen plenty of places where they are referred to as "Congo D.R." and "Congo-Brazzaville" (similar to "Guineau-Bissau"), respectively. Ok, that's the end of my rant! |
