| to alastor - I've fixed the double "the". As far as "beaten" goes, that would surely be more grammatically correct, but in the U.S. people will honestly almost always say, "I got beat like a _____."
to matfitz - I did some research. In the U.S. we say "over". In the U.K. they say "down". "down" certainly makes logical sense, but "over" has a greater amusement quotient. My wife and I have a combined life experience of 122 years, and neither of us can recall ever hearing anyone say "down" in that particular phrase. I've said it before - "It's as if there were an ocean separating the two countries." |
