I took the tube back out of town back to the rollin' pin.
I felt a little like a dying clown with a streak of Rin Tin Tin.
The dog up and died. He up and died.
After twenty years he still grieves.
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'til you spend half your life just covering up.
Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, ''I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack my dog.''
I met a young child beside a dead pony.
I met a white man who walked a black dog.
Into this house we're born. Into this world we're thrown.
Like a dog without a bone, an actor out alone.
Dark and silent late last night I think I might have heard the highway callin'. Geese in flight and dogs that bite.
Chicken in a bread pan, pickin' out dough.
Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no.
Sidewalk crouchers at her feet,
like a dog that begs for something sweet.
My dog bit me on the leg today.
My cat clawed my eyes.
Badder than old King Kong,
meaner than a junkyard dog.
You ain't got to be so bad, got to be so cold.
This dog eat dog existence sure is getting old.
And just like a dog I was befriended.
I was befriended.
Yeah, ain't but one thing to do, spend my natural life with you. You're the finest dog I knew, so fine.
Yeah, when you call my name,
I salivate like a Pavlov dog.
Now you know that your cat has nine lives, nine lives to itself, but you only got one, and a dog's life ain't fun.
I'm shouting all about love
when they treated you like a dog.
Every dog must have his every day.
Every drunk must have his drink.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',
chasin' down a hoodoo there.
The wild dogs cry out in the night
as they grow restless, longing for some solitary company.
Where the dogs of society howl.
You can't plant me in your penthouse.
Bonedigger, bonedigger, dogs in the moonlight,
far away my well-lit door.
In a soldier’s stance, I aimed my hand
at the mongrel dogs who teach.
I found a fox caught by dogs.
He let me take him in my hands.
You're a bad dog, baby,
but I still want you around.
A doggie is nothing if he don't have a bone.
Oh, doggie, hold your bone. Oh, doggie, hold it.
The dog days are done.
The horses are comin' so you better run.
When you were a young boy, did you have a puppy
that always followed you around?
And there's no such thing as make-believe,
puppy dogs, autumn leaves 'n' BB guns.
Yeah, you got your dead cat, and you got your dead dog.
On a moonlight night you got your dead toad frog.

How about "Yeah, ain't but one thing to do Spend my natural life with you, You're the finest dog I knew, so fine." Bron Y aur Stomp

Marix - That's definitely a worthy choice for inclusion in this quiz particularly because the dog is seen in such a positive light. Dogs very often get the short end of the stick in song lyrics. I think that 30 sets of lyrics is more than enough in a quiz of this nature, but I appreciate the suggestion!

you have 3 songs that have not been guessed correctly so far. why don't you switch one of those out for the suggested one?

As of this moment in time, there have been only 39 Game Plays, and absolutely nobody has gotten more than 25 right out of 30. Bron Y aur Stomp is an album cut and was never released as a single. Lowdown was #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 9, 1976. Sugartown was #5 on December 31, 1966. Crippled Inside was also never released as a single, but I wouldn't want to replace a John Lennon album cut with a Led Zeppelin album cut. Replacing one song would not solve what I fear may be an essential problem with this quiz which is that it is just too difficult. I do think that it's an interesting quiz in showing a cross section of how dogs are used creatively in a wide range of popular songs. It's interesting to see which songs do very well and which songs do poorly in the statistics. On the other hand I purposely excluded some songs that I felt were lyrically a bit rough on dogs - e.g. - I Am The Walrus and Lose Yourself even though they might do much better in the stats. On the third hand I am always open to suggestions to improve this quiz and honestly appreciate any feedback!

While I love Low Down, and vaguely remember Sugar Town, I can virtually guarantee any Led Zep track will greatly outscore either of those. Great quiz.

After 260 Game Plays, Sugartown was well at the bottom in the stats with 1.9%. I've decided to replace it with Bron-Y-Aur Stomp after all. It will be interesting to see how it fairs in comparison.

rockgolf's virtual guarantee has proven out. After 619 total Game Plays, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp has climbed to 9.4%. An uncharted album cut from 1970 has trounced a hit song from 4 years earlier. I guess this is just further empirical evidence that Led Zeppelin is more musically significant than Nancy Sinatra.
