I knew it.

Marvelously clever. I was ready to go to the comments section and say, "Wait, wait, you left a clue blank!"... and then I figured it out. Nicely done.

minute distance or amount could be nose... as in "winner by a nose" having or showing awareness of or involvement in the newest developments of styles could be eye.. as in "fashion eye"

i was fully expecting to find "thumb" on this quiz also, several of these i've never heard of (as expressions)

“I am so hip I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis!”

When I read the clue for chest, I looked in vain for trunk.
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 16:21 GMT
I must be an over-aggressive person, because I read "to hit on the head" as "to hit WITH the head" and immediately started looking for "butt".
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 16:46 GMT
@Grunt2009: I agree with the "nose" definition; however, "hip" is an adjective ("having or showing awareness...") and "eye" is a noun ("the knack for awareness...").

FYI, the kiss/caress amorously one wasn't finger.

The use of wheat as an example in the "fruiting spike of was cereal" clue was very misleading. It's true that corn produces "ears", but not wheat. Wheat produces a "head". I had both answers available, so I just skipped it and eventually got the correct answer by process of elimination. Even so, you should probably change the clue.

I have also heard the word "foot" as in the expressions "foot the blame" or "foot the bill" (i.e. take responsibility)

What about "any of several hardy gregarious African or Asian perissodactyl mammals"?
Mar 24th, 2013 at 00:28 GMT
I saw the clue "to assume the burden or responsibility of", and immediately thought "back" (as in to back someone or something financially), which was an available answer. I was quite surprised that it considered wrong.

For a second there I thought one of the clues was broken. Then it dawned on me...
Mar 24th, 2013 at 01:52 GMT
I saw "throat" and "vamp" and went right to "neck." Sigh...
Mar 24th, 2013 at 03:35 GMT
Very creative...very fun. How about 'lip' for the edge of a cup or container?

Mar 24th, 2013 at 04:18 GMT
WOW! I missed colon because I thought that the clue was missing. *Facepalm

I put tongue for to kiss amorously and neck for insolent boldness

I feel like colon should have actual words written for it. Since other clues had colons in them it just looked like the clue was missing.
Mar 24th, 2013 at 14:27 GMT
I saw the word finger... hmm... No, stop it... you disgust me...
Mar 24th, 2013 at 17:21 GMT
@midnight lady: I never heard spleen used that way either. Same with brain and cheek.

@Grunt2009 - This quiz was published by Sporcle after it had already been played over 2000 times. Before publication nobody had raised any concerns that the "hair" definition was too easily confused with a possible definition for nose. I contacted the Sporcle home office, and they have added a few more words from the same dictionary source to minimize any future confusion when anyone takes this quiz.

now i finally understand that line, Lucy you got some spleening to do
