Fun game! I'd suggest allowing "serbia" and "montenegro" independently for "yugoslavia," since I believe those two countries are now separate.

You should add Newfoundland and Labrador/Canada/1949.

Kosovo for Yugoslavia, and for Rhodesia, specify northern or southern, southern is now zimbabwe, while the north is now zambia, so as the quiz currently is formatted, both should be accepted

@okapi I am adding Zambia. But Kosovo declared independance from Serbia in 2008. It was not recognized as a country when Yugoslavia broke up. So i do not think it should be accepted.

Interesting quiz. Got them all with 50 seconds to go. @Jaybaybay: Of course you can never make an exhaustive list of former or renamed countries. Leaving it at twenty is just fine. @okapi: I am tempted to disagree with you on Rhodesia. I think it is more correct as Jaybaybay had it in the first place. What is now known as Zambia was indeed formerly known as Northern Rhodesia and what is now known as Zimbabwe was at the same time known as Southern Rhodesia. But after Norther Rhodesia became independent as Zamibia Southern Rhodesia unilaterally declared its independence as "Rhodesia" and existed as such from 1965 to 1979 before briefly becoming Zimbabwe-Rhodesia and later Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is therefore the only country that has been called Rhodesia without any further definition.

Good quiz, although a couple of spelling errors - Austia, Moldovia - and separate Serbia and Montenegro.

One more thing: I believe all of what is now called the Czech Republic used to belong to Austria-Hungary. Not "parts of the Czech Republic" as stated in the quiz.

@Joey: no offense but I believe you are the one who has the spelling errors... and when Yugoslavia broke up the country was called "Serbia and Montenegro" @Emil: I agree on both counts and am compelled by your arguement to change the accepted answers.

Accept dem rep congo and D R congo, other usual sporcle names. In addition, I reckon since you want to keep it at 20, if better ones are suggested replace east/west germany and north/south yemen. Somehow they just don't provide the challenge the others do :)

Should be Bosnia and Herzegovina.

@Jabaybay940: No, it is your spelling that is wrong. What Joey meant was that you misspelled those two countries in the answer sections.

Hawaii is still Hawaii same thing with Texas. I don't get those. You should've used all 50 states from the U.S. if you wanted to do that. Because at one point they were all not part of USA.

@RS89,Joey: OOPS i misunderstood you :S problem has been fixed! @mrpot: well Texas and Hawaii both had their own governments at one point.. not all 50 states did

Damn, I thought I'd be clever and put Moldova for the USSR; if I'd just put Russia I would have got the answer to Urjanchai Republic... >( Also, two points about Corsica: it isn't a département of France but a 'territorial collectivity' comprising 2 départements, and 'independance' should be 'independence'. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Weasel. I changed "independence" but I'll be a little less specific and call Corsica a region of France :) I like your name btw.
