"The Body" is a novella, so it's what counts, but I'll make the compilation title an alt, same with the UK title for Babe.

This isn't a comprehensive list, I'm not trying to get every single alternate book name. Granted, I can't believe I forgot to throw in Apocalypse Now.

I never understood until now. They titled the movie in the second row specifically for this Sporcle.

The really weird part is now the movie-tie-in book for Push has been retitled. The book is now titled "Precious: Based on the Novel Push". Really. the novel is named for the movie which includes the name of the novel. The literary equivalent of being one's own grandpa.

@rockgolf: Once I saw a novelization of "Little Women", based on the screenplay for the 1994 film, which was based on Alcott's book. An actual rewrite of the classic. Luckily, it seems to have vanished. @JayHEL: I missed this last December. Good idea, and thanks for including authors up front!

"Precious, based on the novel push by sapphire" is beyond annoying. Did the author force the producers to do this when he/she sold them the rights to the book? I know the title was changed from Push because there was a recent lame action movie with that title. But i don't like this Sapphire person one bit. One, for being named sapphire. Two, because the movie title includes the name of the book and the author's name. What if all movies did that? As in, hey i want to go rent "Apocolypse Now: based on the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad" and then later we can watch "Goodfellas: based on the novel Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family by Nicholas Pileggi" after we eat dinner

I don't claim to be any sort of expert, but maybe someone could enlighten me. Isn't Red Dragon a movie all its own? I've never seen any of those movies, but I was fairly certain it went Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon.

@phine...manhunter was a movie that came out before silence of the lambs, that was based on the book red dragon. after silence of the lambs was such a hit, hannibal was made, and red dragon was re-made.

Apparently the super-long title for Precious came about because this way: The title of the film was originally Push, but after Push came out the title was changed to Precious. While Precious was in production, another filmed named Precious (which I'm guessing was never released) was also in production, so 'to avoid confusion' the studio decided to add the whole "based on the novel Push by Sapphire" subtitle to clarify which film was their project (just in case the films were release at the same time). It screened that way at Cannes, so that was the title that it got in its wide release. As for her bizarro name: Her real name is Ramona something. She decided 'Sapphire' would look better on her books than her birth name. Sounds to me like she just needed to make herself feel like a special snowflake.:X
