Separating Green and Red Koopas? Not a fan. I quit after trying many ways of saying "Koopa Troopa". Also, the Piranha Plant's name is Petey Piranha, that should be acceptable as an answer. Good idea for a quiz, though.

Agree with the color comment - it took me over a minute to figure out that you wanted the colors for the Koopas. One possible option is to put "Be more specific" as a bonus answer which is activated if you type "Koopa Troopa" or "Koopa Paratroopa". Also, "Bloober" should count for Blooper, as that is how it is spelled in the instruction booklet if I remember correctly.

I'll fix that around. However, Petey Piranha is NOT the name of the Piranha Plant, it's the name of a mutated one in Sunshine. Anyway, good idea, Barbaloot, I'll fix that up now. Hope you understand my reasoning, though.

I had the same problem as barbaloot. I do understand and agree with your separation of the two colors.

I do agree with separation of colors, because there actually are differences. But I REALLY like the idea of the bonus hint. That is amazing and sporcle needs to learn to use that.

No podoboos (jumping fireballs)? They ARE considered a living enemy and not merelly an obstacle.

If you can't kill them, they aren't an enemy, but an obstacle, regardless if they have a name. I think I'll put them as a bonus answer, but yeah.

I spent about half the time trying to spell podoboo right, before it occurred to me that it probably just wasn't there. A bonus answer for them would be a good idea.

Nothing like rude, snide little bonus answers, eh? You're cool.

I'm...sorry? I mean, I guess I could just take them away and let people figure out that I want the individual colors via trial and error, but I can't imagine too many people would be thrilled with that, chief.

Since you separated the Koopas with their colors, I like what you did with the bonuses to let me know what you were going for, though maybe "Which color?" would work better. It was still very helpful. Good quiz!

I feel like "which color" makes it a bit TOO easy. I can't imagine too many people who've played the game wouldn't get that I want colors after I ask which one. If I get more complaints then I'll change it, but still, I think that it's explicit enough for people to get it but vague enough that it isn't just telling you.

Nice, although Podoboos have been classified as enemies in most Mario games, including this one (in the instruction booklet). Indestructible enemies are enemies too!

Agree that podobos should be on there. Also, I think it was "Little Goomba" in the instruction manual, and "Spiny Egg" was also considered a separate enemy.

I included the Podoboos, but it really shouldn't count as enemies in the full sense if they're indistinguishable from other fire-based attacks. If you count everyone under the "enemies" section of the booklet, Princess Toadstool and Jumping Boards would also count. In any case, Spiny Eggs will be added as a bonus, and I'll add "Little Goomba" as counting for the Goomba.

Yeah I don't understand the complaints about colors, any mario fan knows there's red and green ones, and they act differently.

Not in the original SMB. Red Piranhas only came into play in SMB2 (or the Lost Levels) alongside the poison mushrooms. In 85 there was only one type.

Don't usually like to post urls (and not sure if it's frowned upon here), but I feel like it would be a disservice to this quiz to not include a link to this video about Mario's enemies: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1824771

I'd be interested to see WHY color separation is a bad thing. The two varieties act in different ways, and in a game with enemies as simplistic as SMB's every difference counts. In any case, Mark, I used the modern names as the placeholders but I made sure that alternatives made answers such as King Koopa count.

I think "koopa troopa" should count for both red and green. Same with "paratroopa." I call bs on that one. Different colors don't make them different types of enemies.

No, but different colors and different attack patterns DO make them different types of enemies. Mfel, I can't change the quiz now that it's published, but I agree that this should count (despite the unlikelihood of someone not guessing "bros" after bro doesn't work) so I'm sorry for the oversight.

wasnt there flying cheep cheeps in the orginal game? Although im not sure if techically you could actually count them as being different from the normal ones in the water.

In the original manual there's no distinction between two kinds of Cheep Cheeps (like there is for the Koopas) and moreover there's no reason to think that the ones in the underwater levels aren't identical to those above water and aren't jumping because there's no motivation to do so. Grade A nitpicking (and I mean that in a good way) but I don't think there's a difference.
